The Turbo Hydramatic 400, or Turbo 400, as it is more commonly known among racers and performance enthusiasts, made its debut in 1964 as the standard equipment transmission in big block-powered Cadillacs and other full size GM vehicles.
Almost from the moment it put in an appearance on the street, the Turbo 400 attained near-legendary status as one of the strongest automatic transmissions ever made. In addition to becoming the transmission of choice for serious drag racers, pulling trucks and other mega-horsepower big block enthusiasts, the Turbo 400 automatic found a home as standard equipment in some of the most powerful and exotic vehicles ever produced –from V12 Jaguars and Ferraris to Full Size Jeeps and military vehicles. Today, the THM 400 transmission is only installed as original equipment in certain military vehicles, but it remains a favorite among horsepower junkies everywhere in need of a brutally strong 3-speed automatic. Although Turbo 400s are already stout in stock form, a TCI® prepped Super StreetFighter™ or Competition Turbo 400 can handle over 600 normally aspirated horsepower.

We go the extra mile to ensure your
transmission is superior in both form and fun
ction. Beginning with a
careful inspection of the transmission case and components that will be
used, we replace stock parts with high performance bands and components
where applicable. We increase fluid flow, lubrication system and thrust
capacity. Problematic hard parts are replaced with stronger components,
many of which we fabricate ourselves at our in-house machining centers.
Valve bodies are completely remanufactured and 100% tested prior to
installation. Finally, each and every TCI® transmission must pass both a
static hydraulic pressure test during assembly and a final dyno test prior to
shipping. That's Triple Tested so you can be confident you're getting a transmission that's
ready to rock.

Torque Converters

Tested Quality
TCI®
strives to produce the best torque converters in the industry. Part of
the process involves ensuring that each unit is built to spec. Regardless
of what category or price level it may fall into, every TCI® torque
converter is Triple Tested during assembly.
Once all the prep work on
the component parts has been completed, the impeller is welded to the
front cover. Immediately following this process, a pair of dial
indicators are employed on a rotating table to verify that the impeller
body and pump drive hub remain true.
Each unit is then
pressurized and subjected to a leak test to confirm the integrity of all
the weld seams. Lastly, each unit is computer balanced to reduce
annoying and potentially damaging drivetrain vibrations that would occur
from an unbalanced torque converter. That's Triple Tested so you can be confident you're getting a
torque converter that's
ready to roll. |

Turbo Hydramatic 400 Valve
Bodies
The transmission valve body is the brain of the transmission. Often it is called the control valve. Valve bodies, like automatic transmissions themselves, have been changed and updated through
the years. We select and use only the valve bodies that will provide you with the best performance
and service. All TCI® valve bodies are 100% quality checked for proper function and, where applicable,
proper operating pressures on a dedicated valve body test machine.
We offer three types of modified valve bodies for your Turbo 400:
StreetFighter® Series - Manual/Automatic
Our manual/automatic valve body is designed for the street and strip performance car owner. It is the same valve body used in our StreetFighter® transmission series.
Full Manual Series
Our competition valve body for maximum performance and quick elapsed times in a racing application. By controlling the valve body only through manual means we can produce quicker shift timing and are
able to run higher line pressures than possible with an automatic shift transmission. Higher line pressure
makes it harder for clutches to slip under high loads. Remember, with a full manual you will have to make
every shift, for these units do not shift on their own. A great choice for bracket cars, monster trucks, and
virtually any off-road competition vehicle where a Trans-Brake is either not legal or not desired.
Trans-Brake Series
Our Trans-Brake Series allows you to achieve maximum torque converter stall and provides for quicker and more consistent reaction times and 60 foot times. This is due to the Trans-Brake action which prevents an
engine's torque load from being transmitted through the drive train prior to the launch. The Trans-Brake acts
in much the same manner as a manual clutch. Once the Trans-Brake is engaged, the vehicle can neither roll
forward nor backward and as you press on the accelerator the engine can rpm as high as the torque converter
stall. Once the Trans-Brake is released, the power is transmitted immediately to the rear tires in much the same
manner as a manual clutch but with the parts saving advantage of the torque converter's shock absorbing action.

The new TCI® TH400 Full Manual Shift Valve Body with Low Gear Engine Braking is the best way to deliver quick shift response times and clean neutral shifting. Best of all, the full engine braking in low gear is perfect for rock crawling and 4x4 applications where utilizing the engine’s compression drag to help traverse the most extreme terrains is a useful feature.
The TCI® TH400 Full Manual Valve Body with Low Gear Engine Braking is the perfect set-up not only for heavy off road usage, but is great for hot street/strip cars where a forward shift pattern valve body ensures reliable transmission gear selection. As with all TCI® valve bodies, installation is a simple bolt-in procedure for any GM TH400 transmission with all necessary parts included and performance is guaranteed due to the rigorous TCI® quality control standards.

Replacement Trans Brake Solenoid For Turbo 400
TCI®’s replacement trans brake solenoid features a precision-ground steel shaft with bronze bushing, a shaft-pinned nut for secure placement and unique lip seal to prevent fluid leakage while minimizing
mechanical drag. The conical-face design handles higher forces than standard flat-faced solenoids with
its 0.250” stroke. The high-efficiency, precision wound coil maximizes the force delivered by the solenoid,
and the two-wire set-up ensures a good quality ground. Fits TCI® Trans Brake Valve Body #321500.

Heavy-Duty Turbo 400 Flywheels and Flexplates
TCI® flywheels are .035" thicker than stock and the starter ring is welded to both sides of the flywheel for additional strength.
Constructed from a high tensile strength material these flywheels resist elongation and
cracking. All 168 tooth flywheels are sized for stock 3/8" mounting bolts and can be easily drilled for 7/16" diameter high performance torque converter applications. SFI 29.1 approved.

Chevrolet Flywheel Shims
These shims are an easy way to achieve optimum spacing when installing a new flywheel on Chevrolet
crankshafts. These 0.030" shims manufactured from high quality steel, are a must when additional clearance
is required between the starter and flywheel ring gear. Works on both automatic and standard shift flywheels
with standard Chevrolet crankshaft bolt flange and flywheel.

Aluminum Drums
Manufactured from 7075-T6 aluminum billet
because of the outstanding strength properties of the material. Reduces
weight from the transmission's rotating mass without compromising drum integrity. All
drums are designed to hold up to five clutches and are hard-coat

use.
